Selamat datang di forum silaturhami dan diskusi dengan buku ini, sebuah buku yang lahir dari rahim pemikiran kreatif tentang berbagai fenomena di sekitar penulis. Inilah buku yang menghimpun tulisan-tulisan berbasis fakta dengan olahan intuisi dan refleksi, ketimbang dengan analisis akademik empirik yang njelimet.
Pendekatan demikian dimaksudkan untuk mendekatkan ruang dan tema tulisan kepada pembaca tanpa memaksa mereka mengernyitkan kening atau, bahkan, terobsesi untuk menelusur referensi-referensi yang gagah dan canggih. Konsep-konsep akademik pun—misalnya ruang ketiga (third space)—disampaikan secara ringkas dan sederhana. Andaikata pembaca ingin melacak kajian akademiknya, semua bisa dibaca-lanjut pada buku atau artikel dalam Daftar Pustaka.

Tulisan-tulisan yang terhimpun dalam buku ini semula ditayangkan di website pribadi saya https://muchkhoiri.com, media online pribadi yang menjadi wadah publikasi tulisan-tulisan harian saya, dengan sejumlah rubrik yang mencerminkan tema tulisan—ada catatan harian, ruang kuliah, literasi, sastra, kolom, budaya, travel, book review, dan agenda. Tulisan-tulisan telah diseleksi sesuai dengan tema yang diangkat, terutama karya nonfiksi kreatif, sesuai kategori yang ditentukan.
Adapun kategori pengelompokan tulisan mencakup empat bagian, yakni literasi buku, literasi praktik literasi, literasi budaya, dan literasi hikmah. Kategori pertama menyajikan sebelas tulisan tentang refleksi terkait literasi menulis dan menerbitkan buku. Kategori kedua mencakup duabelas tulisan tentang praktik-praktik literasi yang telah saya alami selama ini—dan seharusnya juga dijalani oleh pembaca.
Sementara itu, kategori ketiga, yakni literasi budaya, menampilkan duabelas tulisan budaya, mulai pentingnya bahasa Indonesia sebagai perekat bangsa Indonesia hingga tantangan hijrah kultural di era disrupsi. Kemudian, kategori keempat, literasi hikmah, memaparkan tiga belas tulisan yang membahas berbagai hikmah yang mesti dipetik dari aneka peristiwa dan pengalaman: mulai refleksi bersyukur sepanjang tahun hingga hikmah titik balik menuju cahaya.
Dengan empat puluh delapan tulisan tersebut, saya menyajikan karya tulis yang dihasilkan lewat proses refleksi atas fenomena-fenomena mutakhir pada masanya. Hampir semua tulisan itu telah ditayangkan di website “ruang ketiga” saya—website dengan nama “Literasi, Sastra, dan Ruang Ketiga.” Website inilah ruang ketiga saya untuk—sejalan dengan fungsi ruang ketiga—saya gunakan secara bebas sebagai ruang alternatif untuk beraktivitas literasi menulis kreatif, sastra, budaya, dan sebagainya.
Itulah mengapa saya memilih judul untuk buku ini: Menyuarakan Creative (Nonfiction) Writing dari Ruang Ketiga. Saya menyajikan diskusi fakta dengan teknik-teknik penulisan kreatif, sehingga hasilnya enak diikuti dan terkesan akrab. Menurut Sonia B. Sygaco (2017) dalam buku Writing Techniques in Creative Nonfiction, tulisan nonfiksi kreatif itu bisa meliputi biografi, otobiografi, literary journalism, narasi personal, esai reflektif, flash nonfiction, travelogue, blogs, dan testomonio.
Maksudnya, saya ingin menebarkan suara-suara pemikiran reflektif tentang aneka fenomena dalam tulisan-tulisan nonfiksi kreatif lewat media website saya. Tagline saya: Inilah ruang kreatif untuk refleksi dan narasi literasi: corong virus Emcho menyuarakan pikiran, imajinasi, dan emosi tanpa batas ruang dan waktu. Gigihlah berjuang lewat tulisan! Jadi, suara-suara dalam tulisan sedang digaungkan ke berbagai penjuru ruang dan waktu.
Tentu saja, saya berharap, pembaca berkenan membaca dan menyelami makna-makna yang terpendam di balik setiap judul tulisan dalam buku ini. Harapan selanjutnya, pembaca terinspirasi untuk mengembangkan tulisan mereka sendiri. Dengan demikianlah kita mencoba membangun jejaring kontinuitas pengetahuan dan simpul peradaban yang baik.
Akhirnya, saya sampaikan, selamat membaca dan mengarungi buku ini dengan segenap hati. Mudah-mudahan pembaca menemukan mutiara hikmah dan inspirasinya.[]
