Pada hari Jumat 20 Februari, Himpunan Sarjana Kesusasteran Indonesia (Hiski) punya hajat penting: Bukan mantu, melainkan hajat akademik: Lokakarya seabad setahun Asrul Sani. Online alias daring. Seharian suntuk, bahkan hingga petang.
Ya, seluruh (calon) penulis antologi Asrul Sani—siapa pun dia—wajib menyampaikan rencana tulisannya. Lalu, setiap penulis mendapatkan tanggapan atau feedback dari tim editor, dikomandani oleh Bu Ketum Prof. Dr. Novi Anoegrajekti, M.Hum. Andaikan perangkat radio, tim ini pakai baterei alkalin.
Dari jalannya lokakarya, bisa ditebak: ada penulis yang melanjutkan rencana tulisannya, ada yang menggeser atau menyesuaikan, ada pula yang mempermaknya lagi. Maklum, banyak orang ada aneka kemauan dan kemampuan. Tapi satu hal pastilah sama: Mereka akan segera menulis. Setelah itu, mereka menyambut buku “bantal” Hiski yang baru.
Bayangkan, ada 52 penulis inti dan 15 penulis undangan: 67 penulis. Ditambah penulis prolog dan epilog, serta kata pengantar dari pejabat formal dan nonformal, tulisan bisa tembus 70. Itu akan lebih tebal dari pada buku 100 Tahun Pramoedya Ananta Toer: Sastra, Politik Narasi, dan Kemanusiaan (2025).
Bandingkan, PAT saja (tersusun oleh 46 artikel, plus kata pengantar Menteri Kebudayaan dan para ahli sastra, serta prolog-epilog) mencapai 1170 halaman. Ya, serius: Sekitar 52 tulisan saja mencapai 1170 halaman. Apalagi buku yang kini sedang dirancang: 70 tulisan. Maka, tebak berapa halaman buku Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani nanti.
Tetapi bukan Hiski kalau tidak “tampil beda”. Dari pengalaman pribadi jadi warga komunitas literasi di seluruh penjuru negeri, baru kali ini saya dapati ada organisasi profesi yang menulis buku bareng dengan ukuran tebal yang melebihi batas normal. Belakangan malah terdengar sebutan “bantal” untuk buku tebal Hiski. Jadi ikonik ya?
Di luar sana banyak komunitas, termasuk komunitas saya—Rumah Virus Literasi (RVL)—, sering menerbitkan buku bareng. Kami pernah menerbitkan buku setiap bulan. Tetapi mana berani mereka menerbitkan buku tebal? Paling banter 250 halaman lebih sedikit. Di atas itu, perlu waktu lama untuk memutuskan! Dana jadi alasan klasiknya.
Kalau di luar sana, dana jadi kendala menyusun buku tebal, di Hiski mungkin ada kendala lain? Mungkin kompetensi penulis. Sebentar, rasanya ini juga tidak masuk hitungan. Hiski punya potensi yang tak dimiliki oleh pihak lain. Hiski itu ibarat “perguruan tinggi” di mana pedagogi dan andragogi berlangsung. Ahli-ahli sastra tinggal sebut nama, mereka pasti bisa menulis.
Kurang semangat? Inilah yang beda. Jika di luar sana, menulis buku bareng cukup dikompori lewat grup WA, di Hiski ada “arahan” yang jelas. Tim editor juga mengundang para expert untuk turut menyemangati. Juga dihelatlah lokakarya: menyamakan persepsi, bahasa, atau apalah namanya. Tim editor yang baik hati: sedekah ilmu dan waktu untuk menyusun buku “bantal” Hiski.
Dana? Rasanya dana bukan masalah bagi anggota Hiski. Berkat minat keilmuan tinggi, kalau hanya keluar uang 350 ribu untuk beli buku, itu terasa enteng. Tidak seberat bobot harafiah buku “bantal” itu. Buktinya, dari buku-buku sebelumnya, Hiski selalu membuka dua-tiga kali cetak ulang. Laris manis tanjung kumpul.
Yayaya, agaknya bukan hanya itu alasannya. Harga tidak masalah untuk buku yang bagus. Rega nggawa rupa, harga tinggi terbayar kualitas tinggi. Buku “tebal” itu ibarat gudangnya ilmu, dengan aneka topik, pespektif, dan gaya penulisan. One-stop shopping. Sekali stop, belanja, dapat semuanya.
Inilah alasan mendalam yang pas bagi anggota Hiski untuk tetap siap dengan hadirnya buku “bantal”. Untuk penulis, karya mereka akan menghuni buku itu, lalu disebarkan ke keluarga besar Hiski, atau di luar “rumah Hiski”. Itu artinya keterbacaan, dan keterbacaan juga bermakna personal branding.
Bukankah buku tebal World Literature (1650 halaman) yang dieditori oleh Arthur N. Applebee, dkk. (2008) juga menemukan nasib terbaiknya, yakni memiliki keterbacaan tinggi melintas dunia, ya karena ia terdistribusikan secara masif ke seluruh dunia untuk kalangan yang mencintai ilmu?
Kemudian pembaca, baik warga Hiski atau bukan, bisa menganggap buku “bantal” Hiski yang baru sebagai ensiklopedia paling lengkap: ensiklopedia tentang Asrul Sani. Dengan hanya menyelami buku baru nanti, kepuasan dan kenikmatan bakal dirasakan.
Akhir kata, selamat menyambut buku “bantal” Hiski Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani. Mari saksikan bersama: Kalau Asrul Sani bagian dari _Tiga Menguak Takdir_ (1950), penulis yang melakoni lokakarya hari ini akan menjadi bagian dari “Tujuh Puluh Menguak Asrul Sani.”
