SAAT ini saya punya “penyakit kreatif” yang aneh—dalam arti, kondisinya tidak demikian pada masa muda dulu. Penyakit aneh itu adalah bahwa saya perlu menulis karya kreatif terlebih dulu sebelum memulai menulis karya ilmiah. Menulis kreatif seakan merupakan “pelumas” untuk menulis ilmiah itu. Kok bisa?

Untuk menulis artikel ilmiah untuk jurnal, misalnya, saya tidak bisa langsung masuk ke arena pergulatan yang harus dijalani, mulai menyusuri referensi, merancang artikel, atau menulis draf dan menindaklanjutinya. Saya kerap stucked alias buntu langkah, setidaknya akan perlu waktu beberapa saat hanya untuk memulainya.
Penyakit kreatif itu selalu minta dilayani terlebih dahulu. Kadang saya didorong untuk menulis puisi, esai budaya, catatan harian, travel writing, atau tulisan lain untuk dimuat di media online atau weblog saya https://muchkhoiri.com. Ingat, saya sering bilang, weblog itu wahana untuk menagih karya penulis untuk publikasinya. Nah, satu saja tulisan kreatif dihasilkan, saya sudah klik dan siap untuk masuk ke karya ilmiah akademik yang saya rencanakan.
Hal ini sudah sering terjadi. Sudah berkali-kali saya mempraktikkan langsung menulis artikel ilmiah, dan berkali-kali pula saya tersedat-sendat dalam prosesnya. Namun, ketika saya menulis kreatif dulu, biasanya maksimum 1 jam, saya bisa cukup mudah memasuki area perjuangan menghasilkan karya ilmiah. Cukup dilematis, memang, sekaligus misterius bagi saya sendiri.

Saya kurang mengerti mengapa hal ini terjadi. Mungkin saja ini kebiasaan, ya kebiasaan yang sudah memfosil. Sudah sejak 2011 saya telah menekuni penulisan buku, dan mengisi blog-blog sosial dan pribadi yang saya miliki. Dengan demikian, saya telah begitu tenggelam dan jauh mengalir ke dalam karya-karya kreatif yang, kata para ahli, lebih banyak mengasah dan mempertajam otak kanan. Menulis buku kreatif dan ilmiah populer telah mendarah daging dalam diri saya, itu sederhananya.
Karena kebiasaan inilah, rupanya, otak saya seakan sudah tersetel secara alamiah untuk lebih nyaman menulis kreatif. Oleh karena itu, ketika diajak untuk menulis artikel ilmiah, otaknya ngambek alias mogok, dan akhirnya saya harus tertatih-tatih untuk menulis artikel ilmiah. Wajar kiranya, saat ini saya merasa menjadi seorang “kopral” dalam karya ilmiah untuk jurnal—artinya, saya masih harus belajar pada ahlinya, meski dalam menulis buku saya sudah menerbitkan puluhan judul.
Yang saya maksudkan karya ilmiah di sini adalah karya ilmiah untuk jurnal ilmiah, tentunya. Bukan hanya untuk jurnal nasional dengan status akreditasi Sinta, melainkan juga jurnal internasional semisal terindeks Scopus/WOS. Meski pada hakikatnya menulis artikel jurnal sama saja dari dulu sampai sekarang, keterampilan akses pada jurnal-jurnal terkini menjadi pembeda penting. Ada seni tersendiri untuk menembusnya.
Ketika saya harus terburu mengejar deadline (tenggat), kehadiran ide kreatif untuk artikel blog atau buku merupakan ujian tersendiri, apakah saya melayaninya untuk dituangkan, ataukan bisa saya kompromi dengan menulis poin-poinnya dan akan ditulis pada waktu senggang. Jika tingkat kemendesakan deadline tinggi, saya terpaksa harus kompromi.

Namun, ketika saya tidak sedang mengejar deadline, ide kreatif selalu tampil manja dalam pikiran saya. Ia minta harus didahulukan. Setidaknya, ada satu judul yang dirampungkan pada suatu waktu, itu sudah “memuaskan” keranjingan pikiran saya dalam proses kreatif. Jika ada ide-ide kreatif lain, terpaksa saya harus memuaskan diri hanya dengan menuliskan poin-poin ide atau membuat daftar ide tulisan yang akan dieksekusi pada waktu lain.
Entah sampai kapan kondisi semacam itu memayungi kehidupan menulis saya. Untuk saat ini, saya hanya menguatkan komitmen di dalam hati, bahwa menulis ilmiah itu harus dilakukan karena ia merupakan tuntutan akademik di kampus, dan bahwa menulis karya kreatif juga wajib dihayati untuk menabung tulisan-tulisan bagi buku-buku saya dari tahun ke tahun. Keduanya harus dijalani, sesuai dengan porsinya.[]

Adapun untuk menulis karya ilmiah seperti artikel jurnal, harus benar-benar fokus, serius, karena pra penulisan harus menyiapkan sejumlah referensi, kemudian dibaca serius, yang tidak jarang sudah menghabiskan energi duluan sebelum menuliskannya ke dalam sebuah artikel jurnal.
Walhasil, karya kreatif saya jauh lebih banyak daripada karya ilmiah saya berupa artikel jurnal… he.. he…
