MEMBACA buku antologi berjudul Menulis Kreatif dan Produktif: Kompilasi Pengalaman Personal (2021) yang dieditori oleh Ngainun Naim, dan diterbitkan oleh penerbit Sahabat Pena Kita, sangat penting bagi penulis—siapa pun dia, baik penulis berpengalaman maupun penulis belum-berpengalaman alias penulis pemula.
Mengapa? Yang mendasar, buku ini merupakan sehimpun tulisan pengalaman personal dari puluhan penulis yang pada umumnya sudah berpengalaman dalam bidang menulis, termasuk menulis buku. Bahkan ada penulis yang telah memiliki puluhan buku, bayangkan! Terlebih, tulisan mereka terkait dengan bagaimana mereka dipengaruhi oleh buku-buku yang telah mereka baca; dan bagaimana mereka menerapkannya dalam proses kreatif selama ini.

Dengan membaca buku ini, Anda, sebagai pembaca, akan menyelami mutiara-mutiara pengalaman menulis para penulis yang ada, sekaligus (mungkin) berkenalan dengan nama-nama penulis yang dirujuk atau disebutkan telah mempengaruhi para penulis tersebut. Seakan Anda sekali mengibaskan kipas, dapatkan dua lalat sekaligus.
Tanpa tersebut semua nama yang terhimpun di dalam buku ini, Anda bisa berkenalan secara tidak langsung dengan—misalnya—penulis daerah Solo seperti Sri Sugiastuti atau Agung Nugroho C.S, sedangkan dari Cirebon ada Dr. Didi Junaedi atau dari Jakarta ada Rita Audriyanti. Ada Prof. Muhammad Chirzin dari Yogyakarta, ada pula Prof Ngainun Naim dari Tulungagung. Sementara pembaca bisa terbang ke Bangka Belitung untuk ketemu Dr Zaprulkhan, atau ke Gresik untuk ketemu Dr. M. Arfan Muammar. Terakhir, saya, bisa ditemui kapan saja—Blantik literasi dari Jawa Timur, masih ingat kan?
Apa kata editor dalam pengantarnya? Begini Ngainun Naim menegaskan ungkapannya, “Belajar dari proses kreatif seorang penulis itu sangat penting. Ini bisa memperkaya wawasan dan pengetahuan kita dalam dunia menulis. Seorang penulis yang tak mau belajar lagi—kepada siapa pun dan dalam bentuk apa pun—tidak akan mampu menjadi penulis yang maju. Tulisan yang dihasilkan tidak akan meningkat kualitasnya.” (hal. iii)
Bagi penulis, sebaik-baiknya bacaan untuk menulis adalah bahan bacaan yang bagus, dengan harapan bahwa kelak bahan bagus itu akan keluar menjadi tulisan (buku) yang bagus.
Dalam kutipan tersebut tampak betapa pentingnya membaca tulisan penulis lain. Membaca tulisan mereka bisa menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan. Kekayaan wawasan dan pengetahuan akan memungkinkan pembaca itu akan melakukan tindakan menulis dengan materi yang berkualitas. Jika malas membaca, berarti dia kehilangan bahan untuk menguatkan kualitas tulisannya.
Dalam hal ini, saya teringat ungkapan menarik dari penulis dunia, entah siapa, saya lupa pada saat menulis ini: “If you read good books, when you write, good books will come out of you.” (Kalau Anda membaca buku yang bagus, maka ketika menulis, buku baguslah yang keluar dari Anda.) Implisitnya, bagi penulis, sebaik-baiknya bacaan untuk menulis adalah bahan bacaan yang bagus, dengan harapan bahwa kelak bahan bagus itu akan keluar menjadi tulisan (buku) yang bagus.
Di samping itu, buku ini juga memberikan pesan bahwa penulis yang baik sejatinya juga pembaca yang baik. Pembaca yang baik di sini bukan hanya memetik aneka informasi, tambahan wawasan, dan pengetahuan, melainkan membuka diri untuk terinspirasi menulis. Sebab itulah, tanpa membaca, tulisannya akan hampa, kering, dan tanpa jiwa. Maka, mari tetap membaca apa yang kita suka, sebelum kemudian menulis yang terbaik.
Pembaca yang baik di sini bukan hanya memetik aneka informasi, tambahan wawasan, dan pengetahuan, melainkan membuka diri untuk terinspirasi menulis.
Untuk penutup, mari simak ajakan salah satu penulis buku ini, M. Arfan Muammar, berikut ini: “Setidaknya kita punya angan-angan untuk bisa menulis tulisan yang berkualitas dan menjadi bahan kajian di mana-mana. Mari kita membiasakan menulis dengan serius dan berkualitas, tulisan yang berdampak, tulisan yang menggerakkan dan tulisan yang mengubah pikiran banyak orang. Kawan, sudah saatnya kita naik kelas.”
